19   BIFIDOBACTERIUM MEDIUM

Casein peptone, tryptic digest  10.0     g
Beef extract (BD-Difco)  5.0     g
Yeast extract (BD-Difco)  5.0     g
Glucose  10.0     g
K2HPO4  3.0     g
Tween 80  1.0     ml
Distilled water  1.0     L

Adjust pH to 6.8.
After sterilization, aseptically add solutions of sodium ascorbate and L-cysteine·HCl to final concentration of 1.0% and 0.05%, respectively. Heat medium not freshly prepared in a steamer for 10 min before addition of the reducing substances.
